Beware of cheap underperforming clones

As of 2022 there are many badly performing clones on the market. V2/3GHz NanoVNA uses parts like ADF4350 and AD8342 which are costly and clones have been cutting costs by using salvaged or reject parts.

See official store and look for V2 Plus4/V2 Plus4 Pro versions only to avoid getting a bad clone. We have stopped selling V2.2 versions since October 2020, so all V2 hardware that are not Plus or Plus4 are not made by us and we can not guarantee performance.

something apparently just broke

as I was just changing adapters, suddenly my display went all crazy.
It is stable from 50k to 140M. after that it is a spaghetti display.
139m to 140m is ok. 140M to 141M is not.
Is there a fix for this?

Hi, have a look inside the female sma of nanovna plugs.
The gold plating is poor quality and there is some metal flake settling on
the insulating surface of the sma plug, compressed air blow or brush stroke
may solve the problem. You have to redo a calibration.
It will be better to put stainless steel plugs ....

That is what I succeed. Do not be able to send a video that is just as
eloquent as my words. I was doing a measurement and suddenly I started with
a spaghetti show, and it wasn't possible to get the calibration point in
CC, Ca, Load.

well, that was short lived. It is back, same issue, same frequencies.
under 140 it is OK.

barnc4br 2021/01/17 09:52

I think this is a hardware failure, but it may be a F/W issue.

*"Signal generators*

Two ADF4350 RF synthesizers, plus one Si5351, provide the stimulus and LO signals. The Si5351 covers frequencies up to 140MHz, and the rest are covered by the ADF4350s."

Since it works at and below 140MHz the ADF4350s are obviously suspect. However, both at once would indicate something other than those devices. The 3P3 source for the ADFs is a buck converter (assuming a similarity between V2-2 and V2.4). Since periodically it does snap into operation for a short period, I am thinking that is the issue. Hopefully, it will be handled as a warranty by HCXQS group and replaced since I have had it less than 30 days, since 12/17/20.

Any thoughts? Could it be a firmware issue? It has the 10-13-20 version.
