Hi all, I'm new to the group.
I'm waiting for my nanovna v2 / plus 4 to arrive and was looking into what
battery to order.
3.7V 18650
But I understand there are 3 or 4 types; flat top, dimple and protected.
Any advice?
Beware of cheap underperforming clones
As of 2022 there are many badly performing clones on the market. V2/3GHz NanoVNA uses parts like ADF4350 and AD8342 which are costly and clones have been cutting costs by using salvaged or reject parts.
See official store and look for V2 Plus4/V2 Plus4 Pro versions only to avoid getting a bad clone. We have stopped selling V2.2 versions since October 2020, so all V2 hardware that are not Plus or Plus4 are not made by us and we can not guarantee performance.

Exact battery to order
Standard flat top, the charger protects the cell already.

I bought mine through Ebay. The full search string could be "PANASONICs
NCR Rechargeable battery 3.7V 3400mAh Flat Top" or similar. But, they
are "Flat Top" as has been said, and they seem to work perfectly...

You want the flat top. It is a tight fit and the dimple I doubt would
insert. If you read the online resources, it specifically states to use
the flat top.

I have a 18650B battery but it does not fit the battery cradle. Is there a different 18650? Thanks!
I bought these. Perfect fit.

You need a flat top 18650 battery. A variation of the theme.... same battery, same capacity, just without the top
protrusion...

i bet the 5000 is a fake number
high values are 3200 or 3300mah (most of them dropping down to 2500 or
2600 after a while)
but 5000?? at least questionable
if you only measure 2400 then those are used cells with a new shrink
tubing on them

CONFIRMED Richard. Perfect fit. They arrived today. Thank you for you help and suggestion.

You need to get your cells from a reputable source.
You cannot find a major manufacturer that makes a 18650 cell with
greater capacity than 3600 mAh.
I would suspect that your cell has a capacity of less than 2000 mAh.
The flat top cell has no protective circuit inside it and requires the
device that it is used in to provide the protection.

Hi Sohail,
That 5000mah cell may be a fake. Max mah for 18650 is <4000mah. The
control chip is one of the limiting factors.

Yeah. 3550 is the max legit I can find. I use a Panasonic 3400 mAh unprotected flat-top in my V2Plus4. Protection is supplied by the battery management circuit in the V2Plus4.
Hi Team,
Thank you for the feedback. I learned something new.
Sohail VE3ITU.
Battery lenght is critical. It is mentioned somewhere on the homepage, but I can't find it now. Unprotected batteries seem to be about 66mm long and protected a little more. And thats why the protected ones do not fit.
You want the shorter battery, protection is done by the circuitry in the
nano. I had to go to a vape shop to find ons that fit. Batteries Plus
only had the long ones.
