Beware of cheap underperforming clones

As of 2022 there are many badly performing clones on the market. V2/3GHz NanoVNA uses parts like ADF4350 and AD8342 which are costly and clones have been cutting costs by using salvaged or reject parts.

See official store and look for V2 Plus4/V2 Plus4 Pro versions only to avoid getting a bad clone. We have stopped selling V2.2 versions since October 2020, so all V2 hardware that are not Plus or Plus4 are not made by us and we can not guarantee performance.

vna-qt file storage (.cal & .s1p)

Matt Thomas W5MT 2022/08/20 14:12

I received my NanoVNA V2+4 a few weeks ago.  I am trying to locate the .s1p file that I exported containing the data from an antenna measurement.  Weird thing is that I cannot find it in C:\Program Files (x86)\vna_qt_windows\release using File Explorer.  However, if I try to save it again, I see the file in the Export (s1p) pull down, in the same C:\Program Files (x86)\vna_qt_windows\release directory. I have refreshed, closed and re-opened File Explorer yet the .s1p is not visible (hidden files turned on).  Further, same thing with a .cal file I created today; cannot find it searching in C:\Program Files (x86)\vna_qt_windows\release with File Explorer, but I can see it if I try to save the cal info again.  I do see a previous .cal file I save a few days while using File Explorer.  Downright odd!

TIA for reading!

Matt,

These days, standard users can#t write inside the C:\Program Files...
directories. Try saving somewhere else. Many amateur radio programs need to
write in their installed directory, so for that reason I create a directory:

C:\Tools\

and use that for the program which need to write where they are installed.

The oddity you are seeing is that Windows can emulate/fake the C:\Program
Files... directory elsewhere on the PC for such writing, creating confusion
such as you have seen. Probably somewhere in C:\Users\... but I forget the
exact details now.

Thank you David; very interesting to know that.

I may look around in the Users directory (next time I'm on the other computer) and see if I can find anything.  I bet it's hidden in one of those directories whose name is one of those 26-character long mixed bag of alpha and numeric characters... LOL.

Thanks again!

I use a free search program Agent Ransack in place of the window search engine. It's faster and looks at all the hidden files in ALL the directories.
Have a look at it.
