Beware of cheap underperforming clones

As of 2022 there are many badly performing clones on the market. V2/3GHz NanoVNA uses parts like ADF4350 and AD8342 which are costly and clones have been cutting costs by using salvaged or reject parts.

See official store and look for V2 Plus4/V2 Plus4 Pro versions only to avoid getting a bad clone. We have stopped selling V2.2 versions since October 2020, so all V2 hardware that are not Plus or Plus4 are not made by us and we can not guarantee performance.

nanoVNA-QT extrememly slow to respond to clicks

Lou W7HV 2021/08/14 11:52

I have nanoVNA-QT running under Win10 and it's working with the official V2PLUS 4 running 20201013, which is what it had when I bought it.  When I click on on Device, it takes 5 seconds for the drop down to appear.  Other clicks are really slow too.   When connected, the V2P4 appears under devices as two things, COM5 and "You just lost the game."  I reinstalled the Cypress Driver and get the same.  Under device in QT, it appears only as COM5, which is what I click on to get it working.

After getting this sorted, my next objective is update the firmware.

Yep. Did some searches but didn't find the slow response problem.

Hi, I found that Windows 10 does not release USB addresses even after the USB
device is no longer connected. I use a free software, USBDeview (found at
<http://www.nirsoft.net/> : scroll down to System Tools) to uninstall the
unused device: the next time it is plugged in it is again recognized. I
uninstall the devices that are show with the gray dot on the left. Hope this
helps

Despite the slow response, I successfully updated the firmware.  It took two tries.  First try I got the white screen of death.  I tried lots of things but having it hooked to the computer while powering down/up while holding the "left" jog button got it back to DFU mode where the second attempt was successful.  Now I'm exploring SiSlord's 1.0.69.  So far looks like a lot of nice tweaks and expanded capabilites.  TOUCH CAL doesn't seem to work properly.  The screen is way off, about 4-6mm at the bottom right (with display flipped).  The default after reset is much better.

Use USB 2 port for connect to CPU, in some cases USB 3.0 port more slow

Tried a few things (incl different physical ports) and nanoVNA-QT still lags and drop down menus are erratic at times.  I installed nanVNA-APP and that seems works normally, so IDK.

Separately, to release com ports I found and use the following:

1. Type devmgmt in the Search box, and select Device Manager.
2. In Device Manager, double click Ports (COM & LPT) to expand the section. 3. Right click a com port and then click Properties. (note which it is)
4. Click Port Settings tab and then click Advanced. 5. Pull down COM Port Number list, choose the in-use port you want to clear and then click OK. 6. Ignore the warning message and click Yes. 7. Click OK. 8. Repeat step 3 to 7 to clear another in-use com port.
9. Once the above steps are completed, return the port to the what it was in step 3.
