Beware of cheap underperforming clones

As of 2023 there are many badly performing clones on the market. V2/3GHz NanoVNA uses parts like ADF4350 and AD8342 which are costly and clones have been cutting costs by using salvaged or reject parts.

See official store and look for V2 Plus4/V2 Plus4 Pro versions only to avoid getting a bad clone. We have stopped selling V2.2 versions since October 2020, so all V2 hardware that are not Plus or Plus4 are not made by us and we can not guarantee performance.

Where is the vna_qt.exe Windows Installer?

Mark Lund 2024/03/22 13:41

I am looking for the installer for vna_qt.exe.
Is there one?
I only found the exe zipped.

Also, the older version 20200507 works for me but v1.1 does not.
Anyone else have this same problem?

Dave (G1OGY) 2024/03/23 17:02

There is no installer provided, Mark.
What I have done is to create a directory on the root of C:\ (so that
Windows does not `get in the way`).
I called mine nanoVNA-QT
Then unzip all the files out of `release` into that directory.

Should you wish, you can create a desktop shortcut to `vna_qt.exe` but
make sure that the "Start In" directory in the shortcut is the same
directory into which you unzipped the files.
That s/cut ~should~ be able to launch the program correctly as it will
have all the relevant DLLs in its default PATH.

Otherwise launch (double-click) the executable directly from the new directory.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the info.

I unzipped the files and placed them in
C:\Program Files (x86)\NanoRFE

Seems to work.

Hi Mark,

Although it might work in your initial test, it is a good idea to *NOT* install programs like vna_qt in the C:\Program Files (x86) or C:\Program Files folders. Windows can get finicky about writing information into those Windows-specific folders, and might result not being able to save configurations, settings, etc. It is better to save the program into its own folder, like C:\NanoVNA\NanoRFE.

Good luck.

Seems that Ken is with me on this one, Mark.
And BTW, there are just two DLLs in the `release` folder of V1.1.

Those Qt5xxx DLLs in your print were needed for the previous version.
Judging from the size of the new EXE it would appear that all that
functionality is now compiled-in.

My "C:\nanoVNA-QT" folder has just the two DLLs and the EXE from V1.1
`release`.
