Beware of cheap underperforming clones

As of 2022 there are many badly performing clones on the market. V2/3GHz NanoVNA uses parts like ADF4350 and AD8342 which are costly and clones have been cutting costs by using salvaged or reject parts.

See official store and look for V2 Plus4/V2 Plus4 Pro versions only to avoid getting a bad clone. We have stopped selling V2.2 versions since October 2020, so all V2 hardware that are not Plus or Plus4 are not made by us and we can not guarantee performance.

First step is to ensure it's connected ok. Start with the vna off/disconnected.

1. Run Device Manager in win10 (right-click start then select it from the popup menu or...)
2. Open the Ports (COM & LPT) 'folder' in device manager and note the list.
3. Plug in the usb cable between the pc and the vna.
4. Turn on the vna.
5. You should see an entry for the vna show up in the Ports folder. Mine just says "USB Serial Port (COM24)". Note the COMnn value for later.

Regards,
Mark

Yes its so frustrating that so many USB cables only contain the power wires. Can't tell you how many times I've come unstuck over this :( Apparently I have become to old to learn :)

Hint. Mark such cables so you don't have problems again. Power only ones are useful too. I am sure we have all done it. I put a short length of red heat shrink tube over the wire, in shrunk it just squeezes over the mini or micro end. 73 Dom M1KTA

and I bought a few cables where they wrote charge cable ... and it is a
complete 4 wire

in that case i WANTED only 2 wires but a bit thicker conductors ...
bought 4 cables ... and only one of them was 2 wire grmbl grmbl

that was same frustrating but in the other direction

here i have now about a dozen cables flying around ... and only ONE of
the is a 2 wire ... hmpf

that is for the extra power connector on the pluto (for data line i sure
take a 4 wire cable ... grin)
