Because I'm new, I am watching, "Absolute_Beginner's Guide to NanoVNA by Martin Svaco, 9A2JK so I don't ask too many dumb questions. Most of the info is excellent, but dated...they talk about Win XP, WIN 7 and 8 and much older VNA's, but the general information is very helpful.

My new NanoVNA V2Plus4 version is  : git-20210530-412578c.
It is currently working perfectly and wondering if I should update the firmware for fear of ending up with an expensive paperweight.
I went to this groups.io and downloaded this version: nanovna-v2-20210726-v2plus4.bin ( https://nanorfe.com/downloads/20210726/nanovna-v2-20210726-v2plus4.bin )
It appears to be only 2 months newer than what I have.
I have the VNA-QT working and can use it with my Nano. Any recommendations on whether I need to update it to the 20210726 version?

I still have the exact same problem like Bob and Walt.
The upgrade itself works fine no error code or what but when I check the version in
the nanoVNA its still on the old firmware?
Any suggestions what can be the problem?

FW *20210726 stable* has internal version number *git-20210530-412578c  compiled on 26 July 2021* !!!

If You want a different version from the *20210530* , please install the newest and last FW *20211227 experimental

I have had the old V2 (SAA-2). Last official FW version was 20201013. End of life for all clones :)
I have used after my V2 official was dead - only experimental or test versions. .

The sound of experimental concerns me. I like a stable platform since I
just got this and it is working properly.
I just don't have the newest firmware...mine is 2 months older.

Hi all!
It is a risk to test an experimental software version. But it only happened twice that the FW did not work properly. But you could always go back to the previous version. Otherwise, I've always enjoyed the new features of the software.

I mentioned the futures of the firmware for SAA-2, and this firmware has nothing to do with the firmware for NanoVNA-V2Plus4.

Hello everyone,

I bought a new NanoVNA V2 pus 4.
Unfortunately I cannot update the FW because my NanaVNA-QT SW keeps
crashing.
The nanovna-saver SW V 3.10 also crashes.
The USB driver from Cypress is installed and the USB interface is
correctly recognized.
Operating system PC: Windows 10
FW NanoVNA V2 pus 4: 20210530 -> latest stable version
nanovna-v2-20210726-v2plus4.bin
NanaVNA-QT SW: 05.2020In the end I didn't want to use the ST Tolls for
downloading.
Do you have an idea how I could update the system.

You can update FW with program NanoVNA-APP. This program can update V2/V2Plus4 with .bin files nad NanoVNA-H/H4 with .dfu files.

2. set NanoVNA-V2Plus4 into DFU mode (DFU mode is BOOTLOAD Mode now)
3. try to connect program to NanoVNA-V2Plus4 - COM port number , Connect
4. program ask You - wont You update
5. show program the way to the FW .bin  file -->Upload Firmware
6. after fw update program starts  self or click "Leave DFU Mode"

It's all. I have not now V2 device und can not show all pictures to FW update

I find it odd/confusing that none of the external software interfaces (Nano vna_qt, NanoVNASaver) provide any means that I can find to check the device's firmware.  NanoVNASaver version 0.3.10 states NanoVNA Firmware Version: NanoVNA-V2 v1.0.2 I have no idea what this is telling me since nanovna-v2-02210726-v2plus4.bin loaded Version: git-20210530-412578c Build Time: Jul 26 2021 With this pick-any-file-name protocol, the only meaningful delimiter seems to be the date associated with the firmware even though 0530 produced 0726.  I also find all the different hardware versions of device confusing.  Always looking for divine intervention, maybe that is what the Saver program is trying to tell me, i.e., NanoVNA-V2 isn't NanoVNA V2Plus4.

thank you for your valuable tips and the SW.
Unfortunately it doesn't work with the software "NanoVNA-App" to connect
to the NanoVNA-V2Plus4 and so I can't download a FW.
I followed your description exactly.


As you can see, the interaction (protocol, timing) between the firmware
and the device "NanoVNA-V2Plus4" (on my device is the FW
git-20210530-412578c)
and with the Windows10 operating system, which works with the Cypress
drivers and with the different application software variants NanaVNA-QT,
VAN-Saver, NanoVNA-App not compatible.
It is very frustrating for me to try so helplessly all the variants with
several PCs.
As others have already written, this is also the case with other users.
