Beware of cheap underperforming clones

As of 2023 there are many badly performing clones on the market. V2/3GHz NanoVNA uses parts like ADF4350 and AD8342 which are costly and clones have been cutting costs by using salvaged or reject parts.

See official store and look for V2 Plus4/V2 Plus4 Pro versions only to avoid getting a bad clone. We have stopped selling V2.2 versions since October 2020, so all V2 hardware that are not Plus or Plus4 are not made by us and we can not guarantee performance.

No driver for SAA2 on Windows 11 24H2

warpedspeed 2024/12/14 13:46

I am attempting to get a SAA2 working with NanoVNA-QT.

The computer is running Windows 11 24H2 (26.100.2605) . It is my work laptop and I have no control / say over the OS revision. It was freshly imaged last August with Windows 11, not upgraded from Windows 10. No VNA or Cypress driver has ever been connected or installed on it.

The VNA shows up as Virtual Serial Port Device 00, but no driver is found.
I am getting error Code 20 in Device Manager, “no compatible drivers for this device” .

No luck with Windows update.

Any ideas?
Maybe a 24H2 incompatibility?

Thanks

Dean

I personally still use 23H2 so I can't tell you for sure, but I have no problems with my system (also on a laptop).

Have you tried to install the Cypress-Drivers using their own installer yet? The driver might not be added to 24H2's driver database yet / hasn't been ported yet.

Also, sometimes "uninstalling" the device in device manager and reconnecting it can also help...

Over the last week I have been able to spend some more time on this issue.

I had tried all of your suggestions already before posting my message, however I still appreciate your feedback. I tried unpacking the Cypress installer and manually installing the drivers for the VNA, but that did not work either.

At this point, the problem appears to either be isolated to that laptop, or that model series, Panasonic Toughbook FZ series. I was able to try it on a different laptop, not Panasonic, that had been upgraded from Win 10 Pro to Win 11 Pro and is currently at the 24H2 level. The driver installed and functioned fine on that one. It had never had the Cypress driver on it before. That other laptop only has USB 3.1 ports, the same as the Panasonic Toughbook. I also used that laptop to upgrade the firmware in the VNA to see if that would help with the Toughbook driver problem, but no luck with that.

A couple of the other guys at work have the same model Toughbook, some with Win 11 and some with Win 10. We have not had time to experiment with this though, as we have been very busy with work tasks.

So, this may just be a hardware specific driver issue and not a Windows 11 issue.

I know that all of the USB ports are working fine on the Toughbook in question, since I have used them for attaching many different devices, including Motorola P25 and TRBO repeaters, radios, and comparators, as well the more typical peripherals for input, printers, sound, etc…

Thanks

Dean
