Beware of cheap underperforming clones

As of 2023 there are many badly performing clones on the market. V2/3GHz NanoVNA uses parts like ADF4350 and AD8342 which are costly and clones have been cutting costs by using salvaged or reject parts.

See official store and look for V2 Plus4/V2 Plus4 Pro versions only to avoid getting a bad clone. We have stopped selling V2.2 versions since October 2020, so all V2 hardware that are not Plus or Plus4 are not made by us and we can not guarantee performance.

No Battery!

D. B. Rea 2023/08/08 12:34

I just received my new Nano VNA2 Plus4 in today's mail.  It wouldn't run unless plugged in.  I opened the case and NO BATTERY!  Any suggestions on what to do next?  TIA

Mine also came without an installed battery. I assume that was how they all
were shipped. The site did not specify that the battery was included.

Hi, depending on the shipping method selected the battery may not be
included, please see the product description for more details:
https://www.tindie.com/products/hcxqsgroup/nanovna-v2-plus4/

The battery is a standard 18650 flat-top unprotected 3.6V/3.7V lithium-ion
battery that you may find in e-cigarette shops, like the following:

This is how to insert the battery:

If you are adventurous - Many old laptops used these cells. Carefully cut open the case and pull out the cells. They will have tabs on them so you need to use pliers to remove the tabs. The tabs are spot welded on so I roll the tab on to a long nose pliers and the spot welds release quite easily.

I have found many of these packs only have one cell bad out of the  10 to 14 cells in the pack. Measuring the voltage of each cell will allow you to sort them out. Pick the ones with the highest remaining voltage and use one of them in your nanoVNA.

Go to a vape shop. They will have the correct battery. Batteries Plus
will not. Even though they sell a battery with the same number, it will
not fit.

Li Batteries are not shipped from China via normal post. That is why you
did not get a battery.

Hi
I joined this group recently.
Probably when VNA was shipped using airplane, Li battery can not be
included due to the possibility of fire. When traveling, probably you were
asked if battery is in the luggage. You can pack Li battery or laptop in
the carry-on luggage.
This might help you understand why Li battery was not included in the VNA.

There are shipping restrictions on lithium batteries. That is why they are
not included. There are several battery vendors you can buy the battery
from that are setup to ship them. Note that battery comes in two form. One
with a protection circuit and without. The protection circuit makes the
battery a little longer so the battery holder has to be a little longer.
One of the VNA I have have uses the shorter non- protected battery. I
noticed the circuit board had holes for either battery holder and room for
the longer one.

I still have three left. I'd send you one if you know of a legal
way/method of
sending them. I'm in N. Colorado.
