Beware of cheap underperforming clones

As of 2023 there are many badly performing clones on the market. V2/3GHz NanoVNA uses parts like ADF4350 and AD8342 which are costly and clones have been cutting costs by using salvaged or reject parts.

See official store and look for V2 Plus4/V2 Plus4 Pro versions only to avoid getting a bad clone. We have stopped selling V2.2 versions since October 2020, so all V2 hardware that are not Plus or Plus4 are not made by us and we can not guarantee performance.

NanoVna V2+ became noisy above 3.8 GHz

biastee 2023/07/14 23:01

My NanoVna V2+ has suddenly become noisy above 3.8 GHz Below 3.8 GHz, the unit functions normally. When a LOAD is connected to port 1, the S11 suddenly increases above 3.8 GHz (blue trace in Cartesian plot below). On the Smith chart, the defect manifests as a wildly swinging trace above 3.8 GHz.

When the two cables are joined together to form a THRU, both S11 and S21 have abnormal spikes above 3.8 GHz (image below). The un-calibrated S21 starts at -10 dB because I have inserted a 10 dB attenuator in port 2. After calibration, the S21 is flat 0 dB over 50-3800 MHz, but above 3.8 GHz, the S21 has an abnormal spike (red trace in Cartesian plot below). The S11 (blue trace in Cartesian plot) also has a spike above 3.8 GHz.

My unit was bought from the Tindie store.

Hi, do you have a V2 Plus or V2 Plus4 unit?
Thanks

biastee 2023/07/16 06:48

Hi, according to the receipt (attached image below) it is "Plus4", but I am not sure. Please tell me how I can find out. Thanks

Hi, the date and price seems to suggest it is a V2 Plus instead of Plus4, and the error may be because we renamed the product listing at one point. Can you find the original email confirmation for your order or would you mind sending me a photo of your device? You can private message me through Tindie "Contact Seller" if you wish.
Thanks
