Hi everybody,
I purchased a NANOVNA V2 Plus 4 that works very well as a standalone instrument but I am unable to connect it to any PC (NanoVNA-QT, NanoVNA Saver and NanoVNA-App). From the attached files you can see my firmware version.
I have a Windows 10 PC and so I have downloaded and installed the Cypress drivers that are available in the official WEB site. When I connect the instrument to the USB port I can see the associated COM port (COM3) but when I run the NanoVNA-QT software it freezes. Using the NanoVNA-APP I can see the COM3 handshacking and I see that often the NanoVNA stops answering to requests coming through the Tx line (timeout on the Rx line - see attached screenshots).
I suspect that this behaviour is due to timing issuses caused by an incorrect firmware version.
Unfortunately, the only way I know to update the NanoVNA firmware is through its NanoVNA-QT (or NanoVNA-App) software that I can't use because the connection fails.
Do you have any suggestion to solve this problem?
Thanks in advance.
Beware of cheap underperforming clones
As of 2022 there are many badly performing clones on the market. V2/3GHz NanoVNA uses parts like ADF4350 and AD8342 which are costly and clones have been cutting costs by using salvaged or reject parts.
See official store and look for V2 Plus4/V2 Plus4 Pro versions only to avoid getting a bad clone. We have stopped selling V2.2 versions since October 2020, so all V2 hardware that are not Plus or Plus4 are not made by us and we can not guarantee performance.

NanoVNA V2 Plus4 unable to connect to PC
Switch the +4 to upload mode and connect to the nanovna app... App will find
that and you can upgrade your plus4..
Should work fine
In upload mode the com number may change... So maybe you need to change it in
the app

I've got both a plus4 and a plus5 and one will work on a USB cable the other will not. The computer would Intermittently connect and disconnect. You might simply try different USB cables to get your computer to connect to your VNA. Both mine work great if I am using the right cables. Magic.

My V2 Plus four screen reports exactly the same information and firmware version as your screen. I purchased it from the official store (Tindie) in China. Only the serial number differs from your screen, of course.
I have used nanovna-saver running on x86_64 (a recent and an older HP laptop) and VNA_View-i388.Appimage (run on an old Atom netbook) with it. All have performed well for me.
Good luck and 73!

Hi,
I've reported on a similar problem with my S.A.A.2 in earlier posts. See the groups.io thread starting at
https://groups.io/g/NanoVNAV2/message/3377
My first suggestion would be to uninstall the Cypress drivers and reboot the pc. My experience has been that the Cypress drivers don't work on my Win10 and Win11 pcs but that the native Windows drivers work fine. See:
https://groups.io/g/NanoVNAV2/message/3647
I am using the latest firmware release 20220814
Good luck.

Thank you very much for your suggestions Siegfried. I use the NanoVNA App (the screenshots that I have attached to my original post are taken from the NanoVNA APP. Unfortunately, when I put the NanoVNA in boot mode I get the ""
Hi Siegfried, thank you for your suggestions. Unfortunately, when I put my NanoVNA in upload mode the device is not recognized by Windows (Unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed - see attached screenshot) and so the NanoVNA App don't see the device and does not allow me to upload the latest available firmware. This behaviour is very frequent. Almost any time I connect the device to the PC I get the (unknown USB device error). Rarely the NanoVNA is recognized by the Windows system and, when this occurs I see the associated COM port (COM3) in device manager. So, when I set the device in upload mode, the COM port is changed and, as a result, the device is not recognized by Windows.
Hi John, thank you for your suggestions. I tried different USB cables and different PCs but unfortunately I had no luck.
Thank you for your suggestions Dave, I uninstalled the Cypress drivers (or at least I think I did because I see that the Cypress files are still in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers folder after the uninstallation process). I have rebooted the PC and now I systematically get the "unknown USB device - device descriptor request failed error " when I connect the NanoVNA to my PC (before Cypress driver uninstallation I got this error frequently and rarely the device was recognized as a COM3 serial port). Windows is not installing alternate drivers for the "unknown" NanoVNA device.
Ok. I seem to recall that the native Windows drivers appeared on my PCs after a Windows update. You could try that route. Also, I used a utility called "Driver Store Explorer" to remove the Cypress drivers.

Hope this helps.
