Beware of cheap underperforming clones

As of 2022 there are many badly performing clones on the market. V2/3GHz NanoVNA uses parts like ADF4350 and AD8342 which are costly and clones have been cutting costs by using salvaged or reject parts.

See official store and look for V2 Plus4/V2 Plus4 Pro versions only to avoid getting a bad clone. We have stopped selling V2.2 versions since October 2020, so all V2 hardware that are not Plus or Plus4 are not made by us and we can not guarantee performance.

Firmware options

Karl Jan Skontorp 2020/11/25 13:31

I hope someone can give me some information regarding firmware for my NanoVNA SAA2N

I have bought and just got a NavoVNA-SAA2N, and is a bit confused about which firmware to use. I'm a bit disappointed as this unit does not have the same console command interface as the the other NanoVNAs, the one I'm missing is the screen dump function. I think I have seen some place that the firmware for these utnits have been upgraded with a screen dump function, but I cannot find the message.

To be sure about my unit, I have the following description, "black metal box" with 2 N-connectors and 3.95" screen.
Label on the back:
SAA-2N
Simple Vector Network Analyze
Freq 50kHz-3GHz
HW version 2.2
S/N N2010xxxx
Made in China by Zeenko

Display following information on screen:
NanoVNA 2_2
Software copyright @edy555 et a1
Hardware designed by OwOComm
Licensed under GPL.
https://github.com/ttrftech/NanoVNA
https://github.com/nanovna/NanoVNA-V2-firmware
Version: git-20200617-11:29:36

Kernel: None
Compiler: gcc
Architecture: arm Core Variant: N/A
Port info: GD32F383
Platform: BARE METAL
Board: NanoVNA V2_2
Has FPU: yes

I have checked the github mentioned above, the "ttrftech" seems to be ok, the screen shows a version from 17. June 2020, but on github the there are a version from the 20. June and the one from 21. March. The version from the 17. June is not there.

I suppose the version 0.8.0 from 20200620 is ok for my unit.

Another site is also mentioned on the screen, https://github.com/nanovna/NanoVNA-V2-firmware. Here, there are newer versions, lik the one dated 20201013. I go to the link: https://nanorfe.com/nanovna-versions.html to find the correct version for my unit. But the only version 2.2 I find only have a 2.8" screen. I conclude that none of the firmware version at this site can be used on my unit! Is my conclusion right?

Are there any other options for working firmware versions to my unit?

Best regards

*So the one to use -- and I am using this one, so I know it works
correctly -- is the "blackmagic" version at this URL:*

Karl,
Both CHO45 and DiSlord have submitted pull requests to Gabriel which add screen dump to the V2 firmware. Gabriel has accepted the pull requests so her next firmware release should include the screen dump function.

DiSlord has released a beta firmware which includes the screen dump function. It is working quite well with OneOfEleven's latest NanoVNA-App.
