Beware of cheap underperforming clones

As of 2023 there are many badly performing clones on the market. V2/3GHz NanoVNA uses parts like ADF4350 and AD8342 which are costly and clones have been cutting costs by using salvaged or reject parts.

See official store and look for V2 Plus4/V2 Plus4 Pro versions only to avoid getting a bad clone. We have stopped selling V2.2 versions since October 2020, so all V2 hardware that are not Plus or Plus4 are not made by us and we can not guarantee performance.

Error Msg connecting NanoVNA V2 plus4 to VNA QT

HB 2023/04/08 14:10

Just received a V2 Plus4 - version 20220301

Was going to update the firmware to 20220814 - so I downloaded the .BIN file.

Downloaded the cypress windows driver.

Downloaded VNA QT (ver 1.1).

Installed driver, extracted QT zip, and started the V2 PLus4 connected to Win 10 PC via USB cable.  Determined COM port number from device manager, started VNA-QT and selected correct COM port.  I receive an error message that says "Exception" and then No Error.

Rebooted everything, tried again, same error.

I downloaded VNA Saver.  It will connect and control my NanoVNA V2 Plus4.  I do not know how to update firmware with VNA Saver.

Any help?  Do I need the new firmware?

Probably another d@mn clone.

As far as i know the plus4 does not exist as a clone...

Try nanovna app... That works fine with saa2n and v2plus4...

Best frontend of the 3 available software (personal view)... If i try nanovna
qt or saver.. Or app... The last one is the best one

I couldn't get VNA QT nor Saver working at first despite installing the Cypress USB driver.  I couldn't update the firmware because QT couldn't connect.
I then tried changing the COM port # from COM10 to COM7 in device manager and was able to get VNA QT to connect.  I was then able to do a DFU, updating the firmware to the latest firmware.

To make the COM port assignment change, I first had to show hidden devices and uninstall one of the various unused devices that had previously claimed COM4-COM9.  I then went into the driver properties for the NanoVNA and changed the COM port assignment under the Port Settings tab... Advanced...

After doing this, VNA QT was able to communicate with my NanoVNA.  Still no luck with Saver, though.

Update -- I got 0.4.0 to work while 0.5.3 of Saver still will not run.

Thank you Joseph -  your instructions worked for me using a genuine NanoVNA V2 Plus4. Using Windows 10 the VNA_QT refused to connect to COM10 and errored as described. COM10 was working as I did get another programme to connect to the VNA on COM10 with no problem. However, I deleted COM7 which was allocated to bluetooth and changed the VNA device in Windows to use COM7 rather than COM10 (keeping the default 9600 baud). I also re-ran CypressDriverInstaller_1.exe and rebooted. Putting the VNA unit into firmware load I called up VNA_QT, selected Device COM7 and it immediated connected  and went into firmware download mode equesting the BIN file. It took just seconds to update. Now successfully running version 20220814. Reconnecting COM7 after the upgrade allowed me to use the full features of VNA_QT (don't forget to refresh the device list otherwise your new port might not be visible). I'm new to using this device but so far this has exceeded expectations. Many thanks.

I tried getting to “port extensions” from the unit itself, but can’t find it on the menus. I have done it on VNA_QT, and cant find it

Thanks

Hello HB,

I had same problem yesterday and lost 2 hour to fix it.
Once you put the device in Bootloader mode, open VNA_QT.
Choose MENU DEVICE and verify in whic COM has been detected, for example COM10.
Do not choose COM10 into device menu but OTHER...
This will popup a new window and inside wrote \\.\COM10 (chenge for the number of com identified for your unit).
This will go ahead for FW update.
