Beware of cheap underperforming clones

As of 2022 there are many badly performing clones on the market. V2/3GHz NanoVNA uses parts like ADF4350 and AD8342 which are costly and clones have been cutting costs by using salvaged or reject parts.

See official store and look for V2 Plus4/V2 Plus4 Pro versions only to avoid getting a bad clone. We have stopped selling V2.2 versions since October 2020, so all V2 hardware that are not Plus or Plus4 are not made by us and we can not guarantee performance.

Dual calibration?

Leif M 2022/04/29 22:44

Is it necessary to calibrate both NanoVNA and PC software. I would think that it is better to have calibration only in computer apps/software.
I ask In Nano VNA V1 forum arose a question, that is it necessary to calibrate the NanoVNA and the computer SW.

Yes, you must calibrate the Software again, because the SW has no access to
the calibration data stored in NANOVNA.

I understand. But NanoVNA-App has an  option to use either calibration from device or from app. Is the option working or not, I have no idea. NanoVNA-App is currently only PC software which works with my new VNA V2 in W7/32.

nVNA-F 2.2 BH5HNU firmware 1.0.4
nVNA-H v3.6_MS firmware 1.1.01
nVNA-H4 v4.3_MS firmware 1.1
Windows 10 Pro x64

I have been in the place where I don't understand what is being posted, so my sympathies.
I have used NanoVNA-App with these.
Both options work for me.
I don't have it running now, but in NanoVNA-App, I press the button on the left with all the arrows to download the VNA sweep settings. I understand that it downloads the VNA cal in use at the time. So if I have Recalled 2, for example, then that cal is used by NanoVNA-App. Perhaps is does not read the cal data, but simply downloads the sweep, assuming that a good cal is in use, and the sweep data is good.
Or I can disregard the VNA cal, and run a cal from NanoVNA-App. I'm sure you have seen the dialog for that.
Once the NanoVNA-App cal is done, save it or not (I do, with a specific name).
Then click the Set Sweep button. It applies the cal to the current sweep.
Then choose the cal from the drop list, and run a sweep.
I have run a VNA sweep, followed by a NanoVNA-App sweep, and they compare well.

If you choose to use the VNA cal, then have the cal in use when you run the sweep from NanoVNA-App. Select VNA from the Cal drop down list.

If you choose to do a cal in NanoVNA-App, then tap CALIBRATION > RESET on the VNA to send raw data to NanoVNA-App. Use that data to do a SOLT cal. Select App from the Cal drop list. Run a sweep.

You should get a pretty close match doing both these.
